There have been a few back to school photo sessions at Newlands Park recently, and I am absolutely loving this location. The parking is plentiful, it's a quick walk from Langside and Pollokshaws East train stations, and if you live locally, it's so easy to get to by bike or on foot. I love creating an experience for kiddos that lets them feel in control and, ideally, makes them forget they're having their photo taken. Newlands Park is absolute gold.
We've been starting at the trellis, which gives us a chance to chat, warm up and get familiar with each other before heading into one of the quieter areas. There are trees to climb, places to hide, and apparently, plenty of opportunities for "cool sitting poses," as one of the children enthusiastically described them. We've all had such a fun time exploring that during one session, when I mentioned we were just about finished, the child who had been reluctant at the start decided we absolutely were not finished. Apparently, I hadn't taken nearly enough photographs of tree climbing! So we continued, because why not? The weather was cooperative and we were having a blast. Another child decided it would be fun to finish by rolling down the hill — thankfully before the ice cream. I'd hate to be responsible for a potential stomach ache!
Speaking of ice cream, the Dandelion Cafe has the best mint chocolate chip ice cream I've ever had. They also have the biggest millionaire shortbread I've ever seen in my life. Every photo session has ended with a sweet treat for all of us. How could you not? These are exactly the sort of photographs I love — children being themselves, having fun and doing the things they actually enjoy. There will be a little direction when needed, but there will also be plenty of laughs and adventure. And apparently, I let the kids direct me too! Why not? Whatever it takes to create some truly natural and fun photographs for you to cherish for years.
